Why Being a Resolution Member Matters
This week marks Good Divorce Week, an important opportunity to highlight the need for better support for families experiencing separation. The family courts are currently under immense pressure, with severe delays and stretched resources often leaving families in limbo during some of the most challenging times of their lives.
The Private Law Family Department at Everett Tomlin Lloyd & Pratt are proud members of Resolution, a national organisation of family justice professionals committed to finding a better way for families.
There Is a ‘Better Way’
Divorce is never easy; it is often surrounded by stereotypes and stigma, with many people’s only exposure coming from dramatic television portrayals or high-profile cases in the media. Understandably, divorce is frequently seen as highly acrimonious and damaging, particularly for children.
However, the reality for many families is very different. Court should always be a last resort when dealing with financial matters and matters regarding child arrangements. There are alternative paths that can be less stressful, more affordable, and far less damaging. While litigation may be necessary for some couples, too many families find themselves in avoidable and acrimonious court proceedings. At Everett Tomlin Lloyd & Pratt, we believe there is a better way. Our team will only advise you to issue Court proceedings if all other avenues have been exhausted. We will consider what is in your best interests and advise you of all your options.
Guided by a Code That Puts Families First
Resolution is made up of over 6,500 family justice professionals who support people every day to find constructive solutions. What sets Resolution members apart is a commitment to a Code of Practice that prioritises resolving matters constructively and with as little conflict as possible, always keeping the best interests of children at the heart of what we do.
The Resolution Code of Practice outlines principles for a non-confrontational approach to family matters, supporting our ethos and guiding our work. Where possible, we seek to resolve problems outside of court through a range of options, helping couples take more control over the process and enabling them to move on with their lives more quickly than through the courts.
The Code is not just a set of ideals – it is a practical, everyday guide for how we work with peers, colleagues, and clients:
Supporting Good Divorce Week
Good Divorce Week is about raising awareness of this approach – one that puts children first, reduces conflict, and encourages solutions that work for everyone involved.
The team at Everett Tomlin Lloyd & Pratt are proud to be part of a community that champions these values and advocates for positive change in the family justice system. Ashleigh Woodward, an Associate Solicitor and key member of our department, sits on the South Wales Resolution Committee. We are delighted to share that the Committee was awarded Region of the Year at the Resolution Awards 2025 – a testament to our commitment to excellence and innovation in family law.
If you are facing separation or want to learn more about your options, our team is here to help you take that first step towards a constructive, compassionate, and fair resolution.
