Ashley Harkus

I qualified as a solicitor  1996 and joined our  firm in 1998 becoming a Partner in 2001 and Managing Partner in 2010.

I am  the Head of our Employment Law  department having dealt with a wide variety of  employer and employee employment matters  over the last 20 years including  advising on, drafting and negotiating, settlement agreements, , advising on disciplinary, grievance and capability procedures, providing  HR support to local businesses and conducting contested Employment Tribunal cases

As an advocate in a variety of lower courts  and Tribunals since 1996, duty solicitor  and  solicitor Advocate (higher courts  crime) since 2007 I also supervise  and head our criminal  department with a particular interest in defending regulatory offences (product safety, health and safety, food standards) and  road traffic matters.

I graduated from Glamorgan university with a 2.1 in law in 1993  and  completed the legal practice course there in 1994.  I am in the privileged position to manage a firm I have great affection for with colleagues who I believe are dedicated and talented whilst  practising in areas of law that I enjoy.

I am also past President and current treasurer of Monmouthshire Incorporated Law society, current Chair of Torfaen Business Voice and a committee member of Torfaen Strategic Economic Forum.

Areas of Expertise

Kirsten Tuck

I am the head of the civil litigation and personal injury department. I have experience in most areas of personal injury litigation including accidents at work, trip and slip cases, defective product claims, road traffic accidents, fatal accident claims and claims for criminal injury compensation. I have successfully handled hundreds of claims, recovering millions of pounds in compensation for my clients.

My experience extends to other areas of litigation including probate disputes, boundary and land disputes, debt recovery and advice, landlord and tenant matters and contractual disputes.

Having completed my degree and Legal Practice Course in Nottingham, I returned home to Newport where I completed my training, qualifying in 1997. I joined this firm a year later and have been a partner since 2002..

Having been based in Newport and Torfaen throughout my career, I believe that local knowledge and a personal, professional service is important to my clients. Each claim is different and advice should be tailored to each individual problem, rather than the “one size fits all” approach that many larger firms have moved towards.

I enjoy helping trainees and young solicitors develop their skills and knowledge and teach civil advocacy on the Professional Skills Course. I am the secretary of the Monmouthshire Law Society and sit on the Board of the Congress Theatre and am on the committee for the youth theatre.

Jason Pearce

I have practised as a solicitor in South Wales for over 20 years, including over 10 years at this firm.

I have a BA from Oxford University, I subsequently passed the Common Professional Examination in Law with Merit and then passed the Solicitors’ Final Examination at the first sitting.

My chosen area of specialisation since joining this firm is wills, trusts, estates and inheritance tax planning. In connection with this, I studied to join the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (“STEP”) (an organisation that includes solicitors, accountants, financial advisers, tax advisers and others whose work involves trusts or estates), and qualified as a full member in 2009. I regularly attend STEP meetings and training events, to ensure that I keep my knowledge fully up to date, and am currently the Treasurer of the Wales Chapter of STEP.

I also help people plan for the possibility that they might one day lose the capacity to manage their own financial affairs, as well as with what to do if this has already happened to a loved one.

Prior to joining the firm I gained experience in working in a number of different areas of law, and my wide legal knowledge can be an advantage if your matter branches out into other fields.

I enjoy learning languages and, having spent time living in mainland China, speak conversational Mandarin. Hefyd, dw i’n dysgu Cymraeg (I am also learning Welsh).
