LPAs and Living Wills

Lasting Power of Attorney

Our specialist solicitors in Newport and Pontypool can help you create a Lasting Power of Attorney for Property and Affairs so that if you become mentally of physically incapable of dealing with those matters there is a person that you trust able to do so for you.

Why do you need one?

If you don’t have a Power of Attorney then an application needs to be made to the Court of Protection to appoint a deputy. That application is more complicated and costly than making a Lasting Power of Attorney.

How much will it cost?

Our fee for making and registering a LPA for either Property and Financial Affairs or Health and Welfare is currently £395 plus VAT of £79, together with the registration fee of the Office of the Public Guardian which is currently £82. We offer a substantial discount for couples making LPAs together or a person making both the Property and Financial Affairs LPA and the Health and Welfare LPA (the nature and effect of which we shall be pleased to explain to you).

If you would like a free initial consultation to discuss whether you should make a Lasting Power of Attorney please contact Christine Lewis or fill in the following form Contact Us.

Advance Directives (otherwise known as “Living Wills”)

In an addition to a Lasting Power of Attorney it is worth considering whether you wish to make a Living Will. This document allows you to give instructions on the medical care you wish to receive in the event that you become too ill to explain your wishes. A Living Will can ease the burden on other family members. There is also a mechanism where you can appoint in advance a person that you want to be consulted by any doctor regarding your treatment if you are not in a condition to be consulted yourself.

We can offer a reduced fee for a Living Will if you are also making a Lasting Power of Attorney.

If you would like to arrange a free consultation with one of our lawyers to discuss this then please contact either Jason Pearce or Jean Massih or fill in the following form Contact us.
