I have been Managing partner of the firm since 2010 having joined in 1997. I am the employment law specialist for the firm and advise both individual and business clients about a wide range of employment and HR issues including drafting contracts and policies, dealing with redundancy and dismissal and providing representation in the Employment Tribunal. I am also able to offer advice on Partnership disputes and contractual claims.
As an experienced Solicitor Advocate I have also represented individuals and businesses in courts and Tribunals throughout the UK for a wide variety of matters including Health and Safety breaches, Trading Standards and Environment Agency prosecutions, fraud and road traffic matters.
I am the head of the civil litigation and personal injury department and have been a partner since 2002. I have experience in most areas of personal injury litigation including accidents at work, trip and slip cases, defective product claims, road traffic accidents, fatal accident claims and claims for criminal injury compensation. I have successfully handled hundreds of claims, recovering millions of pounds in compensation for my clients. I am an APIL accredited litigator and an accredited member of the Law Society Personal Injury Panel.
My experience extends to other areas of litigation including probate disputes, boundary and land disputes, debt recovery and advice, landlord and tenant matters and contractual disputes.
Having been based in Newport and Torfaen throughout my career, I believe that local knowledge and a personal, professional service is important to my clients. Each claim is different and advice should be tailored to each individual problem, rather than the “one size fits all” approach that many larger firms have moved towards.
I am head of the family department and have been a partner of the firm since 2014. I specialise in childcare and family matters, dealing primarily with child protection. I am a member of the specialist children panel and represent both parents and children in court proceedings involving social services and adoption.
I am also a duty solicitor and attend court and the police station to advise and assist Defendants in all types of criminal cases.
I have over 20 years’ commercial property experience with some of the largest law firms in South Wales. I deal with the acquisition and sale of all types of land and commercial property, the acquisition and sale of investment properties – individually and as portfolios, landlord and tenant and property portfolio management, property development and secured lending, as well as advising on Farm business tenancies and other agricultural matters.
I have practised as a solicitor in South Wales for over 15 years, including five years working for one of the 100 largest firms in England and Wales.
My chosen area of specialisation is the field of wills, trusts, estates and inheritance tax planning. In connection with this, I studied to join the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (“STEP”), and qualified as a full member in 2009. I regularly attend STEP meetings and training events, to ensure that I keep my knowledge fully up to date.
I also help people plan for the possibility that they might one day lose the capacity to manage their own financial affairs, as well as with what to do if this has already happened to a loved one.
I have experience during my legal career of dealing with other areas of law too, so if a matter involves, for example, a property sale, or a dispute, I can give advice about that, too, though we would normally use our in-house experts from other departments to actually deal with any transaction or court proceedings.
I am a Partner with the firm and I am a Solicitor specialising in all aspects of residential conveyancing including transfers of equity, right to buy, Help to Buy, purchases, sales and remortgages. I also advise in relation to wills and probate.
